Chewing the Fat: Susan K. Perry, Ph.D., Creating In Flow blogger for Psychology Today and Janice Taylor, author, blogger, weight loss coach dish the dirt, chew the fat, and talk 'creative weight loss.'!

THE INTERVIEW:

Get Creative, Lose Weight, Find Flow & Happiness

At first, I couldn't find the connection. Janice Taylor, a friend and fellow blogger, specializes in helping people lose weight. She also does crafts. After a few brief conversations with her, I got it: she's found a route to a productive happy life because she no longer feels the need to torment herself about weight. And she no longer has a weight problem because she found that doing creative stuff pulls her into flow and away from the nibbles. She's funny, too. I mean, sexy vegetables? …

This past week I had a consultation with a woman who has battled weight her whole life. After talking to me she said she'd sign up right away except she needs to talk to her husband first. After she spoke to her husband, he wanted to meet with me and hear what I had to say that was different from the hundred other weight loss programs she had been on. My first thought was, “Wow, how's that for support?” but then I realized that weight and acceptance is a big issue for women (and some men), they lament all the time, “Am I thin enough? Am I pretty enough? Do I look good to you?” etc. We can thank the media for creating insecurities in women, most of which are unwarranted. Bottom line, although Susan (name changed), has been suffocated with diet failures, her husband has been along for every painful ride.
